Description

Name: Psychederm

Species: Floric Argonoid

Home World: Flors Argon

Powers/Abilities: Psychederm is able to manipulate objects with his mind. With his telekinesis, he can lift objects up to 80 lbs or so, though this does cause considerable strain.

As a result of their enhanced cerebral activity, Floric Argonoids are highly intelligent and are capable of solving complex equations and puzzles in a matter of minutes. Additionally, they are able to quickly analyze, predict, and utilize their surroundings to their advantage.

Floric Argonoids possess enhanced senses of hearing and smell and are able to perceive each of these senses up to a mile away at worst. Additionally, their eyes possess three additional types of photoreceptor cells in their eyes than humans do, allowing them to perceive a wider range of color.

Psychederm is naturally buoyant and is able to swim.

Psychederm is able to climb and brachiate through the trees and other, similar structures about as well as a human or an orangutan.

Whenever Floric Argonoids utilize their telekinesis, their brains produce a weak, electric charge that causes the stripes along their body to produce light, granting them limited self-luminance.

Weaknesses: Psychederm is physically very weak and could easily be overwhelmed by human opponents, even those that are not physically gifted, such as a group of average bank robbers.

Because their telekinesis is a recently evolved ability, Floric Argonoids can't lift especially heavy objects with it. At most, they can safely lift up to 40 lbs, with Psychederm being able to lift double this due to him being the most genetically optimal member of the species.

Though they can swim, Floric Argonoids aren't very fast and can't dive particularly deep.

While Floric Argonoids are intelligent, they aren't as intelligent as the Galvan or the Techadon Weapon Masters.

Etymology: Psychederm's name is a portmanteau of the word "psyche', referring to the totality of the human (or alien) mind, conscious, and unconscious, and "pachyderm", an outdated taxonomic order of mammals that included tapirs, elephants, rhinoceroses, and hippopotamuses.

Trivia: The species' name and home world comes from the words "flora" meaning flower, and the the chemical element, Argon.

Psychederm draws inspiration from the baku, a mythological creature with the head, tusks, and back legs of an elephant, the paws and ferocity of a tiger, and the tail and mischievousness of a monkey from Japanese lore that is said to devour bad dreams and nightmares from those who request its aid.

Floric Argonoids are herbivores, with a preference for fruit and roots.

Floric Argonoids are an inquisitive and creative species by nature, often poking and prodding at anything that draws their curiosity, especially when it comes to how other organisms function. Through this intense interest and their intelligence, they've given rise to a number of sapient species throughout the galaxy. Though initially experiments in the Argonoids mission to better understand the fundamentals of biology, once a species has obtained sapience, they often gift them their home planet in accordance with the Casey-Kelly Accords.

As a direct result of their tampering with genetics, the species are responsible for the creation and uplifting of the Espegian Revimancers, Vertidactyla, and the Peptidal Glup. They even preserved and released numerous examples of Mesozoic flora and fauna from the K-T extinction event, giving rise to the Periostenshi and their entire ecosystem.

Flors Argon is one of the most, if not the most ecologically friendly civilization in the galaxy. Inventing and utilizing energy-efficient technology, the planet not only generates virtually no pollution or waste, but actually produces excess energy, which is sold off to many a happy civilization in the middle of an energy crisis. This business venture, in addition to their extensive development in genetic engineering, has made the Floric Argonoids one of the wealthiest species in the galaxy.

As an additional benefit of their ecological efforts, the Argonoids have become considerably close with the inhabitants of Flors Verdance - the Florauna - who share the same home system as them. The two species get along so well that multi-species organizations, such as the Plumbers, often pair them together.

Contrary to its immense biodiversity, Flors Argon wasn't always the environmental paradise it is now. Just a few centuries ago, the Galvan began experimentation with a Dyson sphere (known to them as as a Yotta globe) around their system's star, Galvan. In light of a critical, technical error, a jet of gamma-ray energy was accidentally released, forming a gamma-ray burst that happened to collide with Flors Argon at the time. Baking the entire facing side of the planet to a crisp, this caused a mass extinction that led to massive ecological collapse and nearly wiped out the Floric Argonoids; had a portion of the population not developed the genetic mutation to produce minor psychic shielding, they would've gone extinct.

Mortified by what they had done, not just to their reputation but to another species, the Galvan poured in countless resources to help the inhabitants of Flors Argon recover. Working closely with the Argonoids and their expertise in genetic engineering, they were able to reestablish a healthy population through genetic recombination that granted them additional psychic shielding and eventually led to the evolution of their telekinetic capabilities. Additionally, the Floric Argonoids were able to create countless species of plants and animals from the scant survivors that produced renewable energy, removed waste, or saw to the maintenance of these structures until the entire planet functioned like a massive, biological computer.

Since then, the Galvan and Floric Argonoids have established a mutual respect and relationship with one another, often trading ideas and theories with one another. It could be argued that they are the one and only species that the Galvan welcome with open arms; not all individuals share this mentality, however. While there are Galvan that continue to look down upon them, there are a handful of Argonoids who firmly believe that they must suffer for the near genocide of their species, accidental or otherwise.
